Tom Brown
Tom Brown has served as our associate pastor since September 1999. Since that time, he has gotten married, bought a house and become a father! He lives in Downers Grove with his wife Alison and their sons Zachary and Nathan.
Tom is a native of Southern California, having grown up near the Rose Bowl in La Canada, California. He attended the University of California in San Diego where he received a degree in Psychology. After college, he spent a year as an inner-city missionary intern and then worked as a part time youth director before accepting God’s call to seminary.
Tom attended Princeton Theological Seminary, where he was one of the first students to receive a masters degree in youth ministry in addition to a M. Div. Tom has over 15 years of youth ministry experience, having begun as a youth leader while he was still in high school. Tom has worked at churches in California, New Jersey and Florida. He has served as a youth ministry consultant and has led several youth ministry training workshops. Tom currently serves as Moderator of the Presbytery Council for the Presbytery of Chicago. From 2000 to 2004, Tom was the moderator of the Youth Ministry Mission Team for the Presbytery of Chicago and continues to serve on the team.
Tom considers himself a product of youth ministry, having been first invited to church by a close friend when he was in 8th grade. He was baptized and became Presbyterian when he was 17.
Tom’s ministry convictions rest on his belief that, regardless of our age, it is within the community of faith where we discover who we truly are in God’s eyes and begin to live into a new reality. For youth, this vital process of identity formation makes all the difference toward becoming a person of life-long faith.
